APALIT, Pampanga—Business tycoon Manuel V. Pangilinan on Saturday publicly announced his full support to the congressional bid of Vice Governor Joseller “Yeng” Guiao in Pampanga’s First District comes the 2013 election.
Pangilinan made the announcement in his 7:30 a.m. birthday mass celebration at the Apalit Church attended by Pampanga Governor Lilia G. Pineda, Guiao, provincial board members and the town’s local chief executive.
Pangilinan’s birthday celebration was highlighted by a medical mission and tree-planting operation. He was assisted by Apalit Mayor Oscar Tetangco, Jr.
It could be noted that during the Pampanga Day celebration last December 2011, Pangilinan already openly endorsed Guiao as his congressional bet for the 1st district.
With an intention to develop Clark, Pangilinan sees Guiao’s plan to seek a congressional will not only be beneficial for the 1st district but for the entire province of Pampanga as well.
Pangilinan, a native of this town, earlier endorsed Clark as the new international gateway of the country, in the wake of the flight delays and congestion at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Metro Manila.
Last year Pangilinan’s Metro Pacific Investments Corp. expressed interest in building a second terminal for the Clark International Airport as well as a high-speed rail system connecting Clark to Metro Manila using the North Luzon Expressway which is operated by Pangilinan’s Metro Pacific Tollways Corp.
In 2004, Guiao signified his plan to run for the congressional seat comes 2013 right after his term as vice governor of the province.
Guiao and Pangilinan are both regular figures in the Philippine Basketball Association, Asia’s first-ever play-for-pay basketball league.
