CITY OF SAN FERNANDO–More than 200 job applicants were hired during the Independence Day job fair in Bulacan province.
Raymundo Agravante, chief of the Department of Labor and Employment in Central Luzon, said the “Kalayaan 2013” job fair at the Malolos Sports and Convention Center in Malolos City has hired 241 jobseekers on the spot.
Agravante said the job fair is held annually as the labor agency’s highlight activity during the observance of the Philippine Independence Day adding that this year’s theme was, “Ambagan Tungo sa Malawakang Kaunlaran.”
The number of hired applicants, Agravante said, achieves the labor agency’s placement rate target of 15 percent out of the 1,571 registered job applicants.
Pedro Fernando Jr., DOLE Bulacan Field Office head, said more than 7,600 job vacancies were offered by 54 companies during the job fair. Of this number, 3,723 were local positions and the other 3,900 were for overseas companies.
The job fair was held in partnership with the Malolos City Government through its Public Employment Service Office, Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA), Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) and Catholic Commission on Social Action (CCSA).
“I’d like to commend the local government, through its PESO, and all participating employers for being instrumental in bridging more employment opportunities for our jobseekers here in the region,” Agravante said. ●Charlene A. Cayabyab
