BALANGA CITY—Credit advice checks were already released for the new 3,800 college scholars for the school year 2012-2013 covered by the “Iskolar ng Bataan” program.
Ramon Canas of the “Iskolar ng Bataan” office said the credit advice checks were distributed to new Bataan scholars in separate general assembly held at the capitol compound on weekends.
He said the “Iskolar ng Bataan” committee decided to give credit advice checks instead of cash to ensure that it will be used for tuition fee payment.
Governor Enrique Garcia and Bataan 2nd district Congressman Albert Garcia hatched the “Iskolar ng Bataan” scholarship program in 2005. Each college scholar receives P6,000 stipend per year. The stipend, divided into two, is released every semester.
Mayor Joet Garcia doubled to P12,000 the annual stipend of each college scholar covered by the “Iskolar ng Bataan” who are residents of Balanga City.
The college scholars of the Bataan scholarship program reach more than 12,000 a year including students at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) Mariveles campus. The Garcias also hatched the “Guro Iskolar” program for public school teachers in Bataan who want to continue their masteral and doctoral studies. ●–Butch Gunio
