BALANGA CITY, Bataan — The provincial government of Bataan has new 3,800 college scholars for the school year 2012-2013 covered by the “Iskolar ng Bataan” program.Ramon Canas of the “Iskolar ng Bataan” office said that the assembly of the new college scholars per municipality and city will be done next month. Governor Enrique Garcia and Bataan 2nd district Congressman Albert Garcia hatched the “Iskolar ng Bataan” scholarship program in 2005. Each college scholar receives P6,000 stipend per year. The stipend, divided into two, is released every semester.
Mayor Joet Garcia doubled to P12,000 the annual stipend of each college scholar covered by the “Iskolar ng Bataan” who are residents of Balanga City.
The college scholars of the Bataan scholarship program reach more than 12,000 a year including students at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) Mariveles campus.
The provincial government and Congressman Garcia are shouldering the tuition fee and other expenses of the students of PUP Mariveles.
Each PUP student also receives P1,000 stipend per year or P500 a semester.
Since 2005, more than 70,000 college students have already benefitted in the scholarship program of the Garcias.
The Garcias also hatched the “Guro Iskolar” program for public school teachers in Bataan who want to continue their masteral and doctoral studies. ●
